THE
MOBILE FARMERS' MARKET provides neighborhoods and communities around
Greeneville and Greene County with fresh locally produced food
via the food stamp ready Mobile Farmers' Market. Once
again, the Mobile Market is offering a weekly LOCAL FOODS
BASEKT.
The market is funded by the Berea Appalachian Fund, Harry Chapin Foundation, Doole Family Foundation and Holsten Presbytery along with
other local partners.

THE SOIL TO TABLE COMMUNITY
FOOD PROJECT has been
awarded a three-year grant from the USDA. The project has
three components including gardenting and cooking with after school
programs, extending chef, farm, and business-leadership training to teens,
and continuing outreach to our community by beginning a Mobile Kitchen to
complement the Mobile Farmers'
Market.
THE FARM & FOOD
TEEN TRAINING PROJECT expands our work
with local teenagers. Groups of teens will participate in a three
year program involving growing vegetables and raising small livestock at
Rural Resources Farm, training with local chefs, and learning business and
leadership skills by starting a food or farm related business. After
appropriate training, teens and family members who participate will have
the opportunity to own livestock and/or participate in a micro-loan
program. Three groups of teens: The Soul Food Cafe, The Wesley
Heights Group, and The Mission Kitchen are already participating.
Two additional groups will be added over the life of the
project.
In addtion to being a part of the Soil to Table Community
Food Project, this project is also a local project of Heifer
International. Additional funding is provided by the East Tennessee
Foundation. |
FARM DAY CAMP is
a summertime experience for young people ages 4 to 12. Each summer
multiple week-long sessions are held for different age groups that include
milking a cow, making butter, gardening, arts and crafts, exploring creek
life, cooking, caring for chickens and goats and having a blast on the
farm. Discovery Camps for 4th to 6th graders also include excursions

GREENEVILLE FARMERS'
MARKET is the place to be every Saturday
morning from May through October
. The market, held on College Street
in Greeneville next to Walters State Community College, offers the
seasons best vegetables, fruits, and hand crafted baked goods. Come
early for the best selection!
In July, come
to the annual Farmers' Market Jamboree! You will find
contests,
toe tappin' music, and games for
children in addition to all the produce available weekly.
The market is managed by a committee of farmers
with support from Rural Resources, Main Street: Greeneville, and the

FOUR SEASONS GRAZING
CLUB provides an opportunity for livestock
producers to visit local and regional farms to learn about innovative
practices involving rotational grazing, fencing systems, and watering
systems. Frequent topics of discussion also include marketing and
animal health.
Whether you raise cattle, sheep, goats,
horses, hogs, chickens, llamas, alpacas, buffalo, or some other livestock,
you'll find lots to lean and talk about at these fun
events.

The 2007 Farm Arts Festival took place on OCTOBER
20 from Noon to 6pm at Rural Resources' Holley Creek Farm,
2870 Holley Creek Road.
Guests delighted
in lots of live music and story telling with Joyce Carroll and Friends,
Highway 11, JB and the Honeybeans, Tate's Chapel United Methodist Church
Choir, and Farmer Spain & Friends' country music favorites
while Rural Resources folks roasted a hog and goat the old fashioned way
over a pit of hickory coals.
Tabernacle Presbyterian Church held
one of their famous Fish Frys too! Other food included Vegetarian
Bean Soup, Slaw salad, Cornbread, Potato Salad, and Baked Beans as well! Favorite
fall deserts included caramel apples and homemade ice cream in a
bag.
Other Farm Arts treats included: broom making,
basket weaving, spinning, a quilt display, fall plants for sale, information
on organic gardening, and more!
For
kids, fun activities to celebrate the harvest season included face painting, bobbing
for apples, pumpkin decorating, hay bale jumping,and other farm arts/crafts.
Kids activities were led by artist, Wanda Rham.
The Farm Arts Festival was
the start of our Soil to Table Community Food Project and
provided transportation to residents from neighborhoods served by
the Mobile Market to Rural Resources and back. Click here for the
